These are my favorite songs on the album and why

I love these songs in particular because of their sound, lyrics, and meaning. They are some of the first songs I listened to when Lucy introduced me to the album. You know when you listen to an album for the first time and certain songs just seem to stand out to you for no particularly obvious reasons? That is exactly how I came to love these three songs. I found their sound and lyrics to be striking, and I was soon drawn towards listening to rest of the album more regularly because I figured if I liked these ones so much, there had to be more hidden gems.

"Pay No Rent"

The first song I ever listened to from this album is called "Pay No Rent." The song is about the artist's longtime lover who "pays no rent" in his heart. I love this song because of its sentimental lyrics. There is a metaphor used throughout the song that compares dominos and card games to the relationship between the artist and the lover he refers to throughout the song. The song is both beautiful and heartbreaking, as it describes what the singer imagines his lover to be doing. As listeners, we can assume that the two are no longer together, however the singer still seems to have a deep connection to the subject of the song.

"The Winding Stair Mountain Blues"

This song is another one of my favorites from the album. I love the instruments used, they give the song a very upbeat feel. It is one of those songs that I was immediately drawn to, solely based on the sound. I didn't even need to pay close attention to the lyrics of the song, I knew I'd have to listen to it over and over again just to hear the sound. This is definitely one of my first choice roadtrip songs, it is a great song to have on in the background while driving.

"Unrung"

This is another one of my absolute favorites from the album. I love the acoustic guitar sound that gives the song a very warm, slow feel. The song is very poetic and does not have a very clear meaning, but it seems to be about a girl who the speaker of the song was once involved with. She seems to have left him for someone else and the speaker writes about this new person in her life. The song implies that the speaker does not regret his time with this woman because he cannot regain the time he has lost.
