This project has been my favorite so far. Although WordPress is no easy feat, it has been incredibly rewarding figuring out how to use it step by step. I started with my content page and used the template “Coach Mentor.” The theme automatically installed the plugin “Superb,” but I deactivated it because it was a page builder. One of the biggest learning curves for me was remembering that editing the template and editing the page are two different things that are also linked to one another. I had a lot of trouble understanding that distinction at first, but I eventually got the hang of it. Something I have come to really enjoy about WordPress is that you can see visual changes instantly. It is easier to quickly decide whether or not you like a color combination without having to constantly update and refresh the changes you made in a separate browser. I also had trouble with my featured images for each of my blog posts. I could not figure out how to make them smaller, so they take up a large portion of the page. My “fully fleshed out stories” are “Murder or “Murder?”: An Exploration of Foreshadowing and Ambiguity in Passing by Nella Larsen,” “‘O What’ Do We Make of this Time ‘Between the Wars,’” and “An Exploration of Self Image in Maud Martha.” I added a variety of quotes, image galleries, and videos to these three stories. The inspiration for my commerce site came from two things: the recent “Nuuly” craze of renting several articles of clothes each month and my own struggles of finding professional outfits to wear to events. This year I felt like all of a sudden I needed so many professional clothes that I didn’t have and didn’t know how to pick out. This idea sprung from my own stress of finding an outfit that I feel put together in while still feeling like myself. Navigating WooCommerce was also a learning curve, but thankfully the plugin is very straightforward and user friendly. For my theme I used “shopcity” I really liked the layouts of the templates and was able to incorporate my own elements easily. For my images, I chose to use AI generated pictures to create the outfit bundles and I really like the way they turned out. On the cover of my shop’s homepage, I used another AI generated image with a cool feature that allows the image to scroll as you scroll. I thought this was a neat addition because it allows the customer to see the full image of the closet full of clothes. My “fully fleshed out” products are “Mellow Yellow,” “Back to Black,” and “Lavender Haze.” For these products, I added reviews, an image gallery and additional information such as sizes and material. All of my products are categorized under “pastels” or “neutrals.”
